Satan’s goal is to get us to doubt the goodness of God. When we doubt the goodness of God, we’ll turn to anyone but God for what we need.
But God is good, and he is everything we need.
So while doubting can be healthy, let us examine the root of our doubts. If the root is doubting the goodness of God, it’s a lie straight from the enemy himself.
I, for one, will no longer choose to entertain those thoughts. I choose to hold onto the truth of God’s eternal goodness and faithfulness, not chase after lies specifically crafted for my own destruction.
Below are just a few of my battle verses because according to Jesus in John 8:44, “He [Satan] has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
Doubts rooted in lies have no strength. May we boldly declare God’s Word of truth in the face of the enemy’s attempt to crush us. For we are more than conquerors.
“I have written to you who are God’s children because you know the Father. I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong. God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one… I am writing these things to warn you about those who want to lead you astray. But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.”
-1 John 2:14, 26-27
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
“O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O Lord? You are entirely faithful.“
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them… What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.”
-Romans 8:28, 31-33
“For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you.”
“How kind the Lord is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours! The Lord protects those of childlike faith; I was facing death, and he saved me. Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me. He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. And so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth! I believed in you, so I said, ‘I am deeply troubled, Lord.’ In my anxiety I cried out to you, ‘These people are all liars!’ What can I offer the Lord for all he has done for me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the Lord’s name for saving me.”
